HR (Learning and Development) Assistant and Health & Safety

This role is a split role of Learning and Development (80%) and Health and Safety (20%) and sits within the HR team and will be responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising the training and development programs for employees within the organisation. This role involves assessing training and development needs and ensuring that employees receive the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively. 

As the Health and Safety Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of health and safety across the business. This includes providing support and leadership to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees and site visitors, as well as ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. You will play a key role in implementing effective HSE policies and procedures in line with ISO 45001 accreditation.

While no formal qualifications are required for this position, a keen interest in health and safety is essential.

You will not need to be qualified, just a keen interest in this area is enough, since we will provide you with the necessary training.

Key Responsibilities:

Learning and Development Supervisor

  1. Employee mentoring and annual appraisals:
    • To work closely with Heads and Managers to enhance mentoring and appraisal processes and procedure. This will include Heads and Managers own annual appraisals
    • Monitor mentoring and annual appraisals to ensure they are being carried out in a timely manner
  2. Departmental inductions:
    • Assess the current departmental induction process and work closely with department Heads and Managers to improve and ensure effectiveness.
  3. Training needs assessment:
    • Conduct regular assessments to identify the training and development needs of employees.
    • Collaborate with department heads and managers to understand specific departmental training requirements.
  4. Training evaluations
    • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and seminars for employees.
    • Coordinate and schedule training activities, including both in-person and virtual sessions.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback and performance metrics.
    • Make improvements and adjustments as necessary to enhance the learning experience.

Health and Safety

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular risk assessments across all office areas, identifying hazards and potential risks.
  • Implement appropriate safety measures to mitigate or eliminate identified risks.
  • Provide training and ensure awareness of health and safety procedures among staff.
  • Maintain and monitor safety equipment, ensuring they are in working order.
  • Facilitate communication on health and safety matters through signage, guidelines, and meetings.
  • Develop and maintain emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, implementing preventive measures.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of safety procedures and protocols.
  • Ensure legal compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Engage with stakeholders to promote a culture of safety.
  • Drive continuous improvement in health and safety practices through innovation and adaptation.

Special Projects

Ad hoc project work as and when required or requested by the Head on Admin and HR.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.

Experience in designing and delivering training programs, would be beneficial.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

Knowledge of learning management systems and e-learning technologies.

Relevant experience within a health and safety focused role.

Relevant H&S qualification e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH certification will be beneficial
