Package

  • £36,000 - £42,000 dependent on experience.
  • Door-to-door pay.
  • £200 standby for on-call (currently 1 in 14 rota).
  • Core hours – 40 hours per/week, 08:00am – 16:30pm (30 minutes lunch).
  • 1.5x pay for overtime during the week and on a Saturday until 12:00, 2x pay after 12:00 on a Saturday and for Sundays & Bank holidays.
  • Plenty of overtime available – on average, most engineers do 40 hours p/month.
  • 25 days holiday + Bank holidays.
  • Company vehicle provided – optional personal use available.
  • Company profit share scheme – 5% of annual profits paid out across the team, eligible after passing a 3-month probation period, paid in 2 instalments every 6 months.
  • Private medical insurance – after 1 years’ service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working on customers standby generators across Kent & Surrey - with only a couple of sites located in Central London. 
  • Cover all aspects of generator servicing including oil & filter changes and oil, fuel, and coolant sampling.
  • Conduct load bank testing on customer owned generator units.
  • Accurately fault find and diagnose both mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Work on a broad range of generator / engine brands including (but not limited to) Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, John Deere, Volvo, Scania, Iveco, Dorman.
  • Carry out work independently on engines from 2kVA to 2.5mVA.
  • To complete all types of engine repairs (both mechanical and electrical).
  • Fuel pumps, engine belts, starter motors, fuel hoses, cooling systems, AVM’s etc.
    Batteries, battery chargers, water jacket heaters, starter cables, key-switches etc.
  • Able to interrogate different control systems such as DSE, ComAp and DEIF.
  • Understand changeover systems.
  • Be able to complete or assist on mechanical engine rebuilds / top end overhauls.
  • Complete or assist on control panel upgrade works / retrofits.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

  • Previous experience in similar generator services companies or within the power generation industry.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to solve problems with a positive attitude.
  • Self-motivated and able to learn quickly with a strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • Willingness to undertake further training as required for professional development.
  • Able to liaise with customers professionally and convey information.
  • Brand specific generator training courses and/or controls systems training courses.
  • Electrical qualifications – City & Guilds, 17th/18th edition.
