The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy who provides solutions to the most challenging and rewarding major nuclear and defence related projects across the UK.

Whilst your office base will be in Aldershot, Bristol, Manchester, Berkshire or Glasgow, flexibility in work location is a must from time to time our clients do call on our team to deliver work from their sites.

The role
Are you ready to be a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer? An opportunity is available looking for people with strong technical and communication skills, who thrive in solving the most complex nuclear and defence safety problems and enjoy working in multidisciplinary project teams. The people within the client we are supporting will grow with and adapt to the challenges of their clients and the business.

We are eager for you to help us deliver a range of exciting major defence-related programmes across the UK. 

Your duties and Responsibilities will be
  • You will support the company’s clients in managing nuclear safety and ensuring compliance with Licence Conditions and/or Authorisation Condition.
  • You will typically provide technical leadership for hazard/fault identification studies, qualitative and quantitative hazard analysis assessments, radiological hazard assessments, safety case report production, ALARP assessments, support to engineering substantiation activities, liaison with regulatory organisations, development and review of safety management arrangements, and managing/leading safety case activities and teams.
  • You will mentor others in a technical capacity, assist in the production of bids and proposals to aid business growth, implement, and contribute to safety initiatives, and build relationships and networks within this company, its clients, and partners.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in physics, mechanical engineering, or closely related discipline (2:1 minimum).
  • Chartered (or working towards Chartership status).
  • Technical practitioner in the Nuclear/Defence domains, able to demonstrate good engineering judgement with experience in applying fundamental engineering principles.
  • Excellent written skills, and an eye for detail that means you can produce and review high-quality technical reports.
  • Demonstratable evidence of being a leader of technical teams and development of more junior staff.
  • Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
  • Awareness of their own technical limitations and using the help and support of others to deliver.
  • Must be eligible to obtain an appropriate level of Security Clearance.
