The Opportunity
Due to Projects ramping up, a fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established company who play a vital role in ensuring successful design integrity and justification.

The Role
As the Mechanical Engineer you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, the primary purpose of the role is to directly support current operations and future programmes. Supporting nuclear facilities & the delivery of services across sites.
This role will be deemed inside IR35 and will be fully remote (with occasional trips to site based in Helensburgh)

The team consists of Mechanical, Civil, Building Services or Electrical Engineers and are responsible for the authorship, development, assessment, and maintenance of Engineering Design Substantiation for the clients nuclear Facilities, ensuring Design Intent, Critical Safety Factors and Safety and Operational Requirements are met and are consistent with current good practice and legislative/regulatory requirements.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

The work of the Design Authority is varied covering all design aspects such as:  
  • Nuclear infrastructure safety justifications & designs that meet the appropriate standards and codes; and deliver the through life reliability and maintainability requirements.  
  • Operating Conditions & Limits and the Safety systems continued suitability for in-service use of the site Safety systems continued  
  • Design capability and Examination Inspection Maintenance and Testing (EIMT) Schedules. Changes to EIMT; defect trends etc  
  • Nuclear site safety justification & design Intent of change of use of equipment,  
  • Periodic Review of Safety programme and Performance Management reviews 
  • The DA is the Approving Authority that provides an Intelligent Customer capability for the design and safety justification of the systems, structures, and components at Helensburgh.  
  • Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance, and management of the clients nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
  • Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance, and management of design changes/concessions.
  • Presentation of the client’s design substantiations, to the clients ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees.
  • Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures, and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life.
  • Producing Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR).
  • Using a combination of general & specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Applying appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services, and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
  • Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience.
  • Experienced Mechanical Engineer with previous knowledge of the following: Marine Diesel Engines and associated systems OR Mechanical Handling Systems including Hoist, Crane, and Lift Systems.
  • Proven experience of producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant mechanical design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
  • Use a combination of general & specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services, and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.
  • Application of the above on a brownfield modifications project.
  • For non-nuclear background candidates, a Nuclear introductory course would be required to be undertaken within 6 months of joining.
  • Minimum HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Sole UK nationals only.
  • All applicants must be able to attain UK level SC clearance.
It’s also great if you have the following
  • Engineering degree.
  • Chartered Engineer.
