Job Title: Residential Care Assistant - Older People Services

Scope of Work:

At our organization, the core value of our Adult Services - Older People Service is to promote dignity in care, independence, and respect while providing high-quality residential and day care for older people. We strive to be the leading provider of care services in the Lancashire area.

As a Care Assistant, your main responsibility will be to provide personal care and general support to older people and individuals with dementia who require long-term residential care.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist with physical tasks such as washing, dressing, bathing, and feeding clients, including those with special needs arising from physical or mental deterioration.

2. Engage in social duties such as talking to and motivating clients, helping them maintain contact with family and the community, assisting with shopping, and organizing group social activities.

3. Foster a supportive and homely atmosphere where clients can achieve maximum independence.

4. Collaborate with domestic staff to best meet the personal needs of the clients.

5. Contribute to the establishment records, including support plans, where appropriate.

6. Escort clients outside the establishment as required, such as to hospitals or opticians.

7. Attend relevant training courses as agreed with management staff.

8. Provide general supervision to students and volunteers.

9. Assist with laundry duties and the care of clients' items, including emptying and cleaning commodes, making and changing beds, and cleaning and tidying lockers.

10. Provide compassionate care for the dying and attend to the needs of the deceased person and their relatives.

11. Assist management with the administration of medication.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

- City & Guilds in practical or home nursing.

- NVQ Level 2 in Direct Care or commitment to study and achieve the qualification.

- In-service course in Social Care.

- Preliminary course in Social Care.

Experience:

- Experience in caring for elderly persons.

- Previous work in a residential setting.

- Ability to promote and participate in recreational activities.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Knowledge of First Aid.

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements.

- Familiarity with the cultures and religions of the local community and ability to work across cultures.

- Understanding of basic care tasks, such as bathing, toileting, and feeding.

- Ability to liaise with other healthcare professionals.

- Availability for day hours between 08:00 and 22:00.

- Willingness to perform occasional domestic duties and escort duties.
