Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are now seeking a Head of Sales to join our Commercial Team at our Appleton Thorn site. 

As Head of Sales you will be accountable for the development of the commercial sales pipeline for the Stobart business.

Adopting a consultative led, innovative and proactive approach to leverage external market and internal group relationships to increase revenues and drive profit contribution.

As the successful candidate, you will contribute to the overall success of the business and will report directly to the Business Development Director.

This is a full time, permanent position working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm offering a competitive salary and package with the opportunity to work for a forward thinking market leader.

Job responsibilities of Head of Sales include:

  • Focused on delivery of business sales targets.
  • Key leader of the sales agenda, and brand ambassador for the Stobart business.
  • To build strong relationships with potential and existing customers, continually review and deliver improvements and opportunities to leverage company-wide capabilities.
  • Responsible owning and leading on all new business start-ups, TUPE, and tenders. The role holder will direct the Account Management and Operations team in embedding new business wins into the operation ensuring service continuity.
  • Builds robust processes and effective working relationships – internal and external.
  • Proactively look at ways to deliver customer excellence in line with our growth strategy and vision to maintain existing business.
  • Ensure ESL business growth plans are aligned to those of our clients.
  • Support contract renewals and negotiations.
  • Support and continually encourage personal development and actively promote importance of development
  • Recognise underperformance and can coach and develop individuals to ensure performance is improved
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Account, Commercial and Operational Teams, to identify business improvements to drive efficiencies within the Morrisons accounts
  • Work hand in hand with the Finance team, the Retail Admin Invoicing Department and ensure a collaborative approach in line with customer performance. Whilst ensuring internal processes are streamlined to better enable reporting and forecasting.
  • Seek to understand the wider business objectives and, in line with this, look for ways in which to align with sales plan, and own customer goals and objectives.
  • Leads and owns the delivery of the company sales strategy ensuring all colleagues are engaged and have a good understanding
  • Deliver continuous improvement programme that provide commercial value to Stobart whilst offering value back to clients. Challenges and questions ways of working and identifies improvements
  • Work collaboratively alongside the other Senior Managers to maximise results
  • Report monthly, to customer &/or business, monitoring, recommending, and acting on changes and/or improvements
  • Identify profitable commercial opportunities to grow revenue
  • Support the Business Development Director in detailing the New Sales Financial Budget.
Qualifications

To apply for the role of Head of Sales, you will possess the following skills, experiences and qualifications:

  • Proven extensive sales experience within a similar industry
  • Experience of leading a sales operation
  • Experience of commercially leading customers and generating revenue
  • Proven strategic aptitude and ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills
  • Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills
  • Strong leadership skills and experience
  • Excellent at building relationships and growing spending accounts
  • Consultative approach and comfortable with over the phone and face to face environments
  • Business acumen and strong commercial awareness
  • Ability to influence and negotiate at a senior level, both internally and externally
  • Proven track record in Transport & Logistics industry.
  • Ambitious & Progressive, Enterprising, Professional, Supportive and Passionate
  • Exposure to operating within a commercial environment
  • Commercially astute and is strategically aware
  • Energetic and has a natural desire to generate and drive improvements.
  • Good people engagement skills, self-driven, positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong leadership and engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a customer facing environment.
  • Ability to maintain the very highest levels of attention to detail even when under pressure.
