What you will be doing

As part of the traineeship, you will be shadowing a member of the team working within an integrated healthcare framework to provide support to prisoners aged 18 and over. You will be given guidance and support working through the various aspects of the role in the business unit you have been assigned to. The team member you will be shadowing will help ensure you are receiving the training and development needed to excel in the role. You will receive regular reviews to ensure that you stay on track to successfully complete the traineeship and undertake the compulsory therapy as part of the traineeship. Part of your time on the traineeship will be spent working, gaining the practical experience and part studying towards achieving the qualification that has been assigned (subject to criteria).

Our team have a broad skills mix to deliver combined psychosocial and clinical interventions promoting holistic recovery and health and wellbeing to prisoners. This might include working with low-level mental health needs and/or substance misuse issues.

Day to day, with guidance and support, you will be responsible for managing a small caseload, providing appropriate harm reduction advice and guidance, assessments, and care plans; With the support of your mentor, you will deliver structured 1:1 and group-work sessions for both Substance Misuse and Low Level Mental Health service users and provide transitional support from prison to the community to prepare service users for release. Other tasks include:

  • Carrying out assessments risk/initial/comprehensive assessments to inform treatment journeys 
  • Facilitating substance misuse and mental health groups, and Wellbeing and Recovery programmes to the standard required
  • Supporting service users by developing appropriate release plans with them
  • Supporting clinical services by carrying out second signatory duties

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of equal opportunity and client confidentiality
  • An understanding of the needs of vulnerable adults in recovery with experience of previous offending is desirable
